Hydraulic Hoses

Hydraulic hose by pressure rating, bore and reinforcement — one-wire and two-wire braid, four- and six-spiral for high pressure, and thermoplastic where flexibility matters more than abrasion resistance. Supplied as bulk hose or as assemblies crimped to your length with the end fittings you specify.

Hose is rated by working pressure, and the rating falls as bore rises: the same two-wire braid construction that holds 400 bar at 1/4 inch holds well under half that at 1 inch. So a hose cannot be selected by construction alone — bore and pressure have to be read together from the table.

The usual failure is not the hose. It is the assembly: a crimp diameter slightly out, a fitting from a different manufacturer's system, or a hose routed so it flexes tighter than its minimum bend radius. That last one is the commonest, and it shows as a burst at the point of tightest curve rather than at the fitting.

How to choose

Read bore and working pressure together from the table, never construction alone. Then check the minimum bend radius against how the hose will actually be routed under machine movement, not how it sits at rest — routing tighter than the stated radius is the commonest cause of premature burst. Then match the fitting system to the hose: crimp specifications are manufacturer-specific, and mixing a fitting from one system with a ferrule from another produces an assembly that holds on the bench and fails under pressure.

What is the difference between 1SN and 2SN?

One layer of wire braid against two. 2SN carries roughly double the working pressure at the same bore and is slightly less flexible. If the circuit is above about 150 bar, or the hose sees pressure spikes, use 2SN.

Can I reuse the fittings from an old hose?

No. Crimped ferrules are single-use, and a re-crimped fitting will not hold its rated pressure. Reusable field-attachable fittings exist for repairs, and they are rated lower than a crimped assembly.

How long should a hose assembly last?

It depends on flex cycles, temperature and how close the routing is to the minimum bend radius. Most premature failures are routing, not hose quality. Send a photograph of the installation with the enquiry and we will flag anything obvious.
